FAQ

leeches and leech therapy

A leech bite is similar to a nettle stung or a mosquito bite.
You will feel it for a few seconds to a minute long only when the leech is biting through your skin. When leech has bitten and started sucking the blood you will not feel any discomfort or pain, since leeches release an anesthetic when they bite.

Each leech can consume about 5 to 10 ml of blood at each feeding, almost 10  times its own weight.

No. The leech is like a disposable syringe, it is used once and for one patient only.
I only use medicinal leeches that I breed and grow myself, and can guarantee the high quality and safety of the procedure.

Leech bit is a tiny bite, only 1-2 mm deep into the skin. For the first 3-4 days you will have a mark on the place of a bit, but within a week or two it will heal, and it will not leave a scar.

Everyone is different, of course, but I wouldn’t recommend using leeches too often. Your body needs to rest between the procedures. Two treatments per week would be ideal.

The procedure typically lasts somewhere between 20 and 45 minutes and can go up to an hour in some cases

Absolutely!
COVID-19 does affect the blood. Many COVID-19 patients are developing blood clots, including clots in small vessels, deep vein thrombosis in the legs, clots in the lungs, and stroke-causing clots in cerebral arteries. This is why it is essential to thin your blood, and leech therapy does the trick – it thins the blood and prevents clots, have antiviral, and anti-inflammatory effect, helping you recover much faster without any complications.

Yes. The skin is getting tightened and you get an excellent lifting effect without harming your health at all. The leeches stimulate the production of the skin’s own collagen and your skin rejuvenates itself.

Most likely, not. It will eliminate the pain and swelling if you have any and certainly help with the disease, but one treatment is not enough. I would recommend 3-5 sessions to see real results. Ideally, you would need a course of 10-12 treatments every 6-8 months to cure diseases, prevent them in the future, and stay healthy.

The answer is yes. You will be bleeding after the treatment for a few hours (up to 24 hours) and it is a good thing. Do not panic or use any blood-stopping remedies. The bleeding will stop by itself within a 24 hour period.

You will not. It is not the blood that is released in its pure form, but rather a lymph, with erythrocytes in it. It is only 30% of blood and 70% of lymph that is coming out of a leech bite.

Yes, it is quite normal that you might see some blood clots coming out.

There are might be, especially after the first couple of sessions. You might experience some redness, swelling, itching, and light bruising around the bite area.
These symptoms are common for the majority of people and are usually gone within 2-3 days.

Usually, no. But I, personally, do not recommend using leeches on small children under the age of 2.

Yes. If you have any of the following, you are not a good candidate for leech therapy:
Hemophilia
Oncology
Dangerously underweight
Very low blood pressure
Anemia
Pregnancy and lactation
Individual intolerance for a leech saliva’s substances such as: hirudin, bdellin, apyrase, eglin, destabilase, hyaluronidase, lipase, and esterase.

Please discuss all your blood test results and other tests with your doctor. I do not do any diagnostics or tests.

Please, do not use any perfume, lotions, oil or a scented body wash on the day of your session. Leeches are sensitive to the aroma and smell and they are very likely won’t bite.
No make-up for a facial treatment.
No alcohol or cigarettes should be used on the day of a session.
No blood thinners should be used on the day of the treatment; they can prolong your bleeding from the leech bite.
Do not moisten or wash the bite area for several hours after treatment or until you stop bleeding.

Great question! Yes, it can.
Many studies and many real-life cases have proven hirudotherapy to be very effective on animals.
